Sora is building the best school in the world.
Our mission is simple: build the replacement to the broken U.S. education system. No compromises, no reform.
We take pride in our collaborative, team-oriented environment with colleagues who deeply care about our mission. We’re fully remote with members living around the world, and believe in flexibility to ensure we can all live full lives.
We’ve embarked on our journey to accelerate students toward their wildest dreams. We can’t wait for you to join us!
Our team’s values underscore everything we do – how we hire, grow and develop as a team, build our product, and make decisions.
Put Students First: Everything we do at Sora is to accelerate students to unlock their full potential. We always make decisions that are in the best interests of students.
Think Big: Sora is a moonshot organization. We make calculated bets and try new things to move Sora and the mission forward.
Hear and Be Heard: We listen empathetically and share our own perspectives. We lean into courageous, hard conversations and seek to share and receive feedback.
Own It: Each of us has a personal responsibility to move our mission forward. We are accountable to our decisions, communications, and outcomes.
Embrace Learning: We seek opportunities to learn, strive to grow, and approach our work with curiosity.
We deeply believe that if we are committed to building a new educational system, it is imperative to our success that we build a team and culture that reflects this vision. We hire team members from a vast range of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, and work closely together–across departments, interests, and timezones–to build towards our vision.
As a company, we are actively working to foster a workplace that attracts diverse team members, offers a transparent and fair hiring process, equitable and structured compensation, clear opportunities for growth and learning, and an inclusive culture of belonging.
Sora is a fully remote company, and like our students, our team comes from around the world. We believe you should be able to work and live wherever is best for you and your family. In turn, this range of perspectives makes us a stronger company.
Compensation: Our goal is to be competitive with salaries so each person who works here can have a healthy, fulfilled life. In the U.S., we benchmark our ranges to companies of similar size and stage based on mid-sized cities such as Chicago, Austin, Denver & Washington DC.
A stake in the company: All full-time team member offers include a stock options component. This is unusual for a team with such a wide variety of positions and geographies, but we believe it is important. We want to ensure each person who works at Sora feels a sense of ownership–we should all have a stake in the company’s planning, decision making, and success.
Caring for your health and wellbeing: For full-time roles in the U.S., Sora provides and covers 100% of health, dental, and vision insurance and 75% for dependents, along with full life insurance coverage.
Building to your future: For full-time roles in the US, Sora provides a 401(k) with 100% matching on the first 3% of contributions, and 50% of contributions from 3% to 5%.
Helping you grow: We offer a $1,000 annual learning stipend to be used on anything that furthers your learning and growth.
Ensuring you take time off: We offer unlimited vacation time (year-round for full-time HQ team members, and outside of the school year for faculty) and require folks to take a minimum of at least 25 days. Sick time is of course as you need it – a healthy team is a strong team!
Supporting families: We believe deeply in the importance of supporting growing families. Sora offers up to 14 weeks of paid gender-neutral parental leave for births, adoptions, and fostering.
We’re lucky to have built an incredible team and network of advisors and investors around us, including Hemant Teneja of General Catalyst, Rebecca Kaden of Union Square Ventures, Gokul Rajaram of Firebolt Venture and Michael Lynton, Chairman of Snap and former CEO and Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
