Introduction
Calling all foodies!! Have you ever wondered why curry is popular in Indian and Thai cuisine? Do you ask yourself what people in Denmark typically eat for dinner? Do you ponder the connection between olive oil and the Mediterranean diet? If these types of questions pique your interest then this expedition is for you. If you are a picky eater who often finds different foods revolting, this expedition will challenge those feelings. We will explore geographic, historical, and cultural influences on cuisine from around the world and how this all impacts a recipe of your choosing. Food has a way of connecting people in ways few other things can. Students will have an opportunity to expand their thinking and analyze “the story” behind their selected dish. So, pack your bags and ignite your taste buds for a journey through the culinary world.
Students will need to connect with someone from the region they select to conduct an interview related to their recipe.
Students will need ingredients to create their recipes and access their kitchens. Ingredients for the recipes will be based on student interest and research. Students will be responsible for purchasing these ingredients and supplies (reimbursement will not be provided). Parents will be responsible for kitchen safety with their students. Arrangements can be made between the student and the expert if there are concerns about cooking the meal.
