Curious about what going to school at Sora is like? Our student Cade and his father describe a typical day.
“Hear first hand from our students why Sora is different and why they enrolled.”
Learn how our customizable curriculum will encourage hands-on learning and re-ignite their curiosity.
Sora’s full-time, fully accredited program is comprised of creative lessons (like “The Science of Marvel,” “Engineering Rollercoasters,” and “Philosophy, Logic, and the Art of Argumentation”) and self-directed independent assignments that lead students to tackle questions from “What if Monet was a contemporary artist working with digital tools?” to “What are the economics behind building a tiny house community?” and beyond.
According to a study on comparing student performance in cooperative learning versus traditional lecture-based learning, students who learn through hands-on projects and small group discussion perform significantly better than lecture-based students in both recall and problem solving.
At Sora, students work with our teachers to design and create hands-on projects based on what they’re interested in learning–anything from computer science to 18th century Victorian fashion. Teachers help students scope their projects and incorporate academic standards from Math, Science, English, History, and more.
Students, with the aid of learning experts, construct individual education plans tailored to their exploration path. Because we give the students autonomy and voice in their learning, they are more engaged and have better academic outcomes.
We follow a learning model where our teachers serve to challenge students, structure individual curriculum plans, and facilitate their learning, not deliver boring lectures.
