Philly in-person event

Some middle school families gathered in Philadelphia to connect and explore the city in a place-based learning expedition.

Our trip

Philadelphia is the birthplace of the United States and has much history to explore. Middle School students and families had a blast learning, exploring, and just being silly together.

A community experience

Middle School students, siblings, and parents attended the event with their School Director (Emily Smith), Dean of Students (Angela Anskis), and Humanities Expert (Lauren Jaffe). They explored the Eastern State Penitentiary, Reading Terminal Market, Independence Plaza, the Liberty Bell, Valley Forge National Park, and, of course, the Rocky Steps at the Museum of Art.

Connecting in person

Students and parents alike loved connecting in person. One parent summarized the event perfectly by commenting, "This is the first time they've met in person, but they're acting like they've known each other a lifetime!"

Connecting with students and families in person helped transform my teaching into coaching by fostering closer and more meaningful relationships.
