Folklore Poem
By Joelle F.
I wrote this poem for the Expedition “Folklore: Taylor Swift and Poetry,” using inspiration from the literary elements in the album and the themes in the song “Cardigan.” The poem was featured in the 2nd episode of the Sora Journal Podcast.
Folklore Poem
There she sat, a forgotten and dusty book
discarded in the basement.
Rats danced and chewed unto
the mold of her displacement.
She never knew her self-worth
because she was abandoned.
Like an airplane circling around the treetops
but simply never landed.
A boy came to clean the space,
he found her, then he came to a hover
He took along a handkerchief
and wiped along her cover
The dusty book felt loved for once
her feelings came to change.
She became the boy’s new favorite book
once he opened up the page.
