Middle School Spirit Week

By Sora Schools

This spring, Sora’s middle school campus, called Nova, had a fun-filled spirit week with the theme Lights, Camera, Nova! They enjoyed daily themes: Superhero Day, Rock the Red Carpet Day, Western Wednesday, Animated Adventure Day, and Technicolor Film Day.

Beyond fun opportunities to dress on-theme, students played games together, created themed art, and even took to the virtual stage to share their talents with their classmates.

House Competition

Students competed for points for their House. Houses are small groups of mixed-grade students with shared interests and time zones led by a House Leader. They provide great opportunities for students to build connections and culture, and identify with their Houses.

At the end of the week, Sirius House walked away with the most points, winning bragging rights for Spirit Week.

“I loved spirit week because of how much teamwork I saw in my House and other Houses,” said Dawsey J., student representative for Sirius House. “It was amazing to see how my House could go out there and get it done, and I think that is one reason why we won, along with winning the trivia challenge.”

“When Spirit Week started, I was actually sick, but that didn’t stop me from trying to complete the activities and work together with my House to get points,” said Jack H., another student in Sirius House. “I decided since I’m going to high school after this Cycle and will never be in Sirius again, this would be the Cycle we must win. I actually made a spreadsheet adding points of the Houses from all the challenges I could look at and deduced we were likely 1000-2000 points ahead.”

We love how passionate Sora middle school students are, always collaborating and using their knowledge and skills like calculating points on a spreadsheet during some friendly competition.

Spirit Week Activities

“My favorite memory was getting 1st and 2nd in trivia, which boosted our House lead even further,” shared Jack H.

“I also really enjoyed the Talent Showcase, and seeing what my House and others put on there!” shared Dawsey. “I personally really enjoyed working on my talent (which was a skit) with my friends Mya, Logan, and Will. Thanks to the Sora staff (especially Jane!!!) for an awesome spirit week!”
