Sora Is Now Accredited By Cognia

The team at Sora is proud to announce that our virtual high school is now accredited by Cognia, a world-class network committed to improving schools on a global scale. Last year, we received full accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). With our additional accreditation by Cognia, our goal is to give students and parents further confidence in Sora’s ability to meet rigorous standards set by experienced education professionals.

We’re grateful for the Cognia Commission’s recognition of the quality of the education that Sora provides to our students. This accreditation serves to underline the evidence of our success that we continue to uncover in our innovative methods.

Chris Wilson, Head of Schools at Sora

What is Accreditation?

School accreditation is the gold standard for quality assurance in education. When you enroll your student in an accredited school, you know that they will receive a quality education that college admissions boards will notice.

What is Cognia?

Cognia is widely recognized by school leaders, both in the United States and internationally, for their rigorous examination of school systems and curricula.

We are the largest education improvement organization in the world. You can rely on our history of success, built on expertise across a range of educational practices focused on school improvement, assessment, student engagement, effective learning environments, and data use.

Cognia, The Cognia Difference

Since Cognia is a premier accreditor of online and international schools, Sora undertook a rigorous assessment process to receive its stamp of approval. This includes criteria like demonstrating adherence to meaningful performance standards and showing commitment to continuous improvement in administrative policies and reviews.

Garrett Smiley, Co-Founder and CEO of Sora shares his confidence in Sora’s faculty and administration:

It’s fairly unheard of for a school that’s as young as Sora to meet Cognia’s high accreditation standards. The fact that we’ve passed with flying colors is a testament to the work of both our faculty and administration in creating a world-class education.

What’s Next For Sora?

Receiving recognition from Cognia’s global network is another step toward our efforts to educate students on a global scale. While Sora is currently limited to the U.S. and Canada, there is a rapidly-growing international waitlist.

By Fall 2021, our number of enrolled students will have doubled from the previous year.
